Some may accept it and some may not, but it is a fact that life today has become a race of acquiring more and more speed, mechanical and regimental. If we take a look at our daily schedules, the daily grind of life has so much engulfed us that we don’t have any time for introspection and finding out what our real purpose in our life is. The daily grind of life has become so much dominant that finding our bearings and roots has itself become a challenge. What are we here for on this Earth? What is our purpose in life? Why are we here at all? Would it make any difference if we were absent from this scene? What is life? What is reality? Shouldn’t all of us at some stage of our lives, before it becomes too late, be pondering on such questions? But how! Life has become so monotonous and the daily struggles of life take such a huge toll on us that at the end of the day, we become spend forces with nothing but sleep on our mind.
Considering my schedule, I hardly find time for pondering on the above mentioned questions. Managing a ten hour office, in addition of that commuting and on top of it maintaining some decent amount of health and hygiene and eating alone take up the twelve to fourteen hours of my day. And then you have to deal with the scared and the mundane of life that consists of a little bit of shopping for provisions, catching up a little news from the newspaper or the television and the rest of it is spend in sleeping and getting ready for the next day? Is this life? Where is the quality of life? Working for six days a week, for ten hours, for the entire year, with very few holidays takes a toll not only on the body but on the soul as well.
Where is the nourishment for the soul? What do I do to enhance the quality of my life? By talking here about the quality of the life, it is not merely that I am seeking material pleasures, but here I mean that I am also seeking nourishment for my soul. Where do I find nourishment for my soul in this hectic schedule of mine? Sunday comes and goes, as if it doesn’t exist and the other six days of the week are spend in racing in an unwanted race where life goes on and on relentlessly as if someone is pushing me from a cliff. Why is life such a struggle? Someone really hit the bull’s eye when he or she said that life isn’t fair, it was not meant to be fair in the first place. But then there has to be some respite. From where do I find this respite? There is definitely more to life than to enjoy in the childhood, studies, then find a job, then marriage, then have kids and then grow old and then retire. How can life be so dry and meaningless?
It is here that finding the purpose of one’s life becomes such an important thing. There is a definite purpose in everyone’s life rather than just surviving and existing and eating and drinking. There is more to life than survival, there is more to the struggle of life and we have to look at the nuances of life where finding the purpose of life is underscored as the most important reason we are here on this earth. We have to take out time from our busy schedules and ponder more about why are we here in the first place? What is it that I would like to do if I had no constraints of money, family or a job? It is not that I hate my job or I am pessimistic about life in general. But I do definitely believe that life is more than getting along and just a mere struggle for survival. There is more to life and here comes in the hidden purpose of our life.
There are two birthdays that every individual celebrates. First is the material one, the day when we came to this earth. But the second birthday is more spiritual and holistic, for it concerns with the fact that when we have found out our purpose in life and know what for we are here on this earth. The day of our second birthday is not fixed, it may come anytime, early or late, and it is on this day we start working for the fulfillment of our special purpose of life. I hope we all have our second birthdays as soon as possible. Going through this experience is a wonderful thing, and our life acquires a new dimension after we celebrate our second stage birthday. I hope you too pause for a while and ponder whether you had yours or not. If yes, then all the very best for fulfilling your purpose. And if not, I hope you too celebrate your second stage birthday as soon as possible. Bye and take care.
